I currently have an m20 gearbox in my modified ek holden. i have located a v8 m21 gearbox, wondering whether the v8 m21's case is the same size as 6 cylinder m20 (i.e does the v8 box have the same mounts as the 6 cylinder?). also, more importantly, is it just a matter of changing the imput shaft and bell housing to fit the v8 box to a holden 202?

Why bother. The M20,M21 and M22 are identical in dimensions and strength. The only difference between 6 and V8 is the length of the input shaft and the input shaft cover. By fitting an M21 to a 6cyl road car all you'll achieve is less clutch life and loss

Even a 253 with M20 and 3.08 diff is hopeless in reverse.

Cheers Byron for comments. i am currently running 202, m20, and 3.55 ratio banjo. I have tried diff ratios from 3.55- 2.78. The 3.55 makes the car rev too much on the highway (100+ k's). on the other hand the 2.78 ratio centre i used meant alot of clutch

An M21 with a 3.08 gives you an effective 1st gear ratio of 2.54x3.08=7.82:1. An M20 with a 2.78 diff gives you 3.05x2.78=8.48:1. The M20 with 2.78 is actually better! But an M22 with a 2.78 diff gives you 3.74x2.78=10.40:1, PLUS a final drive of 2.78:1 t
