Just toying with an idea at the moment. I have a 308/T400 HZ which is on gas, but stills chews the lpg somthing chronic, ie less than 250kms for 70 litres of gas, that's a mix of highway and city driving and very steady too. I have a very good 253 with 2bbl carb and a V8 3 speed manual also currently fitted to a HZ. Would there be a large increase in economy if I was to change the current motor and tranny to the 253 and manual box? I do expect some improvement, I just would like to know if that would be enough to warrant the effort? Any thoughts would be appreciated, ie will the same gas convertor be compatible?. I must admit I haven't checked the tuning as I've only just bought the car, it's running 8 degrees BTDC in drive, and seems to run OK on gas, albeit much better performance however on petrol. Any tips for adjusting the gas mixture back as it seems to be a little rich, which may explain why it's not as good on gas as it should be. Is is just a matter of getting the car warm and winding the screw back until it starts to hesitate and then wind out until it's smooth again?

Sory for all the questions, just trying to save us some money, but still have the V8 thrill!!

Ta

My Overlander is a 308/TH400 with 31x10R15 tyres and 4.1:1 diffs, AND on gas. I get less than 200kM out of about 55 litres. The TH400 is a factor, and a manual car will generally get better economy. The 2-barrel 253's were economical, but much less so pos

Thanks Byron. Yes my 253 will be post ADR27a being from a HZ, however it seems as if when the motor was reconditioned they have lost most of the pollution gear, that is it's a very 'clean' motor for pipework. All I can see still used is the cannister an

the 253 will normally be better than a 308 on economy , I also have both set ups, my 253 was chewing through gas and I then had the gas tuned in again by a profesional and the economy was much better.

Thanks for the comments, I think a good tune will help, so I'll try that first.

Thanks for that Gedro, yeah straight gas would be great, but as I live in the country, gas is just not everywhere just yet, it's getting better but I really have to stick with dual fuel for a while yet. I fiddled with the mixture a bit on the weekend and
