Hi Guys,
I've been thinking and planning for the injection system's requirements for the Qute.
I could do a Surge Tank and 2 pumps...or...I could put a tank out of an injected donor ute/tonner/4WD/car/wagon into the Qute. This would give me the lift or pressure pump, swirlpot and associated hose connections already done...
I like the second option as it would (hopefully) be tidy and look fairly factory if I can find the right tank.
I had heard that the XG/XH Falcoon tanks were close to the size of the HQ ones, but they are actually dimensionally way different and would need a fair bit of fabricating in the brackets department to fit.
So, the HQ's tank is about 700 mm long by 400 mm wide (both including the join/ledge that runs around the tank) and 300 mm deep and hold 75 litres of fuel. I am not keen on putting a tank of less than 70 litres in the Qute and would like a slightly bigger tank than the original if possible.
Anyone know of a fuel tank that is close to the above dimensions in a late model, petrol powered and fuel injected car. I think a Landcruiser or Patrol or Jap Traytop ute is going to be my best hope and I know that many of you guys have these types of vehicle as work or daily driver cars.
If you can measure your tank and let me know the make, model, dimensions and capacity of the tank, that'd be great. Then I can (hopefully) track one down in Perth and fit it to the Qute...

Try a VK Commodore. I am seriously looking at sticking one of these into my tonner where the STD tank is so that I can put the LPG tank on the other side of the tailshaft. The benefit I get out of the VK tank is that it is flatter so that the exhaust can |

Hi Byron, sorry Dave for the hijack / sidetrack on the thread (a little) but do either of you know tha measurements for the VK tank???? and sedan or wagon?? do they have different fuel filler locations??? Matt

I think one has a solid neck, and seem to remember the other had a rubber joint. May be wrong though. |

Hi Byron and Matt,
I have the original VL sedan tank (about 63 litres from memory) and will measure it for you, Matt, tomorrow.
Dunno about the sedan/wagon tank, Byron. That'd need major mounting surgery too.

I don't think the surge tank is all that necessary and extra pumps are extra complication. I never had any problems running my tonner with no surge tank. However always have to make sure the fuel level doesn't drop too far as the pump was sort of level wi

You guys should know that I never take the most direct route if I think there may be an ultimately better way...and I ***HATE*** lugging 20 litres of fuel around for nothing.

Qute, Can you keep us posted on what fuel tank you come up with? I searched the wrecking yards for a while and ended up just using a custom alloy tank. Cheers.

Having just (yesterday) fitted a s.tank and pumps to my tonner I will be spewing if someone pipes up and says, "Oh yeah, just use the tank out of a xxxx, they fit almost straight in.."!!!
Having said that - I hope you do find an easy solution.. cheers |

If the high pressure fuel pump is lower than the bottom of the fuel tank and the fuel tank is baffled you don't 'have to' have a surge tank. |

I don't think the HQ tanks are baffled...At least, I can't see any in my spare tank.
Having a surge tank or a lift pump is insurance against the main pump running out of fuel, even for short periods of time, which burns them out as they use the fuel fo
