Hi Rusty.

All of the sales brochure & press release photos I have, show the HX Sandman decal in the same place on the guard as an HZ & no flutes.

The spare parts books list the HX & HZ Sandmans as having only standard front guards.

I have a GM-H

Terry is 100% correct. I have heard of very late HZ Sandmans being fitted with GTS guards post the demise of the GTS, but I have never seen one nor can I find any evidence that proves it.

Hi Guys.

Didn't HJ production cease in June 76 & HX begin in July 76. This would make a Sept 76 HJ highly unlikely.

While I was in Melbourne last year, I went to Brocky's Big Day Out at Hurstbridge (I think it was).

While there I spent quite a while talking to a guy who works in the Supplier Development part of Holden and owns an HX Sandman van and an HQ SS (lucky b

Hi Guys.

I do not believe that GM-H built HXs& HZs side by side on the same line, on the same day, with the possible exception of 'pilot build' cars. It is more plausible that some plants began HZ production before some others. My own HZ 1-Tonner Am

I can't comment as I have know knowledge of HX and HZ overlap. I do know however that there was LX and UC overlap. I have personally seen an 11/77 UC, and I have ID off a 2/78 LX.
Mr Scruff, on the HJ/HX Sandman, are you sure it was a HJ? It could have e

Hi Byron.

Yes, I've noticed some big overlaps in Torana production as well. I've serviced many 2/78 & 3/78 LXs, these get the later black ''One-Eared' ignition barrel. I've also seen a 12/77 UC.

The same with LH/LX, I've seen an 11/77 LX hatch & a 2

I like Hq's personally. Just spent the last 3weeks turning a tired old 173, 3 on the tree, 10 shades of white and grey HJ Belmont van into a lookalike Sandman.
Painted it Saffron metalic the same as my original Sandman ute, has 383 chev, TH400 and 9" dif

There's one on ebay at the moment - item 4631686881 - at about $7k

The plates on it make it out to be an HZ 6 cylinder van though if I'm not mistaken. Byron's info would make it impossible to be a Sandman as HZ didn't have the 6 cyl Sandman's.

That is correct. If it's an L plated HZ van/ute it's not a Sandman.

Hi Guys.

How dodgey is that 'Sandman Ute' on ebay.

The body plate says it's an HX van with a 6 cyl 4 speed. It's now a 253 V8.

The VIN plate says it's an HJ panel van made between 1/9/74 & 31/8/75.

He doesn't show the Compliance plate but says

Hi Guys.

A correction to that last post.

The Body plate says it's a HX PANEL VAN.

The VIN says it's an HJ UTE.

The BODY plate is off a Sandman. Actually the first 6cyl HX I've recorded. The 2155kg is just a normal 6cyl HJ ute/van. Could have been a Sandman but unlikely. I spoke to the owner, and he is now aware it's not a Sandman ute.
