Not as yet, I've only just herd of it in Sydney. I have been using the United 98 10% with good results. A much cleaner fuel at a cheaper price than normal premium. Whats the cost of the Shell 100ron??

Its only a few cents more then the standard Optimax. Sounds worth while as the early tests I have seen indicate better fuel efficency. DJR backed off their fuel mixtures 8% and still made more power over 98RON. See link http://www.shell.com/home/Framew

Hi all
Im no expert on these things but I have read/heard some bad reports about the use of Ethanol in fuels especially with older cars (like ours!!)
I noticed that the 100Ron has 5% Ethanol in it which results in the additional octane.
Would be

Have a search through the CSIRO's website as they did a lot of testing on the effects of Ethanol on the fuel systems of old cars (but newer than old Holdens!). It makes VERY interesting reading...
Cheers...Dave

10% ethanol is in fuel designated E10. The maximum allowed.
Ethanol contains more oxygen and the higher the ethanol content, the more likley a carburettor motor will ping. It leans out the combustion which is no problem for a car fitted with an O2 sens |

The ethanol in optimax extreme is what helps the fuel achieve a better octane rating. Ethanol has a greater ability to resist ignition due to high temperature or compression levels. Because of this resistance, it is actually a stable fuel that should redu

The main problem with this fuel is that it is not available at many places, certainly not anywhere near my home, the closest one is 1/2hr away, and very rasrely in my travels do I pass one that does.If it was a bit more widely available I might use it. Ch

I have just recovered from a 6 month stint on 10% 98 ethanol and I must say I will never use it again, it did however reduce my piping prob but after 6 months the car would stall, hunt and flat spot so I stripped the carb and was shocked to see a purple g

To ALL !
How can you really tell, that what comes out of the pump is 100RON ? I would swear that someday I fill...and its not the 95RON I pay for. The pump says it but my car can tell other stories, like its ULP, or 50/50 ULP/PULP. Easy way to make a $

I guess the availability issues of 100octane will sort them selves out when the demand increases enough. Its still a new product, so I imagine shell would be introducing it progressively. Phantom1500, disappointing to hear that you had carbie issues wi Edited by user Tuesday, 21 February 2006 3:59:25 AM(UTC)

is it worth the power gains that this fuel provides when compared to what we have read that ethenol can do to your engine??
does anyone now any sites that cover the issue of ethenol and older engines (besides Shell as they will obviously tell you all i
