Hey I recently acquired a '71 LC Deluxe, 1.4L. I've heard it not possible to put a 6 or 8 in it, is that true and if so, is it a big job putting on a longer front end? Furthermore what engine would you guys recommend if the engine bay is not to be lengthened.
Many thanks in advance, any comments or theories will be well appreciated.

The 4 cyl LC/LJ Torries are about 4" (IIRC) shorter than the 6 cyl ones between the firewall and the crossmember. That makes it VERY tight to fit anything else in without cutting into the firewall.
I have heard of (but never seen) Gemini 1600 and 1800

If you were after big power then I'd look towards a late model import 2L four - maybe even a turbo.

The engine bay is certainly too short for most inline 6 engines but you could probably get a V6 in there. I am pretty sure a 6cyl LC/LJ diff & rear suspension will go straight under the bum of it but fitting the 6cylinder cars front suspension/brake packa |

A bit far out there, but what about a v8? It'd be shorter then a straight 6 right? What about the problems width wise?

V8s fit into them OK widthwise - you only have to look at the myriad of 308 LC & LJs getting around.
By the time you add in the water pump & fan, and bring the motor forward a bit to clear the bigger diameter bellhousing, they aren't all that much shor |
