I had to pick up the kids today from school which is 3 mins down the road. When I pulled up to the school I could feel a thumping vibration (like a heart beat) from the drivers seat. When I got out I could hear it so I poped the bonnet and could see the heater hoses pulsing, put my had on the top hose and you could feel the pulses?? What the?? The eng temp was aprox 60deg and the radiator was showing a low temp and the overflow bottle was normal. When I got back the noise had stopped and the block temp was 90deg and radiator up to a 1/3rd, when I started the car eng temp went back to 80-85 and rad on 1/2 where she runs all day every day.
What is the cause of this pulse and how do I fix it, never happened before.
I have replaced waterpump, new high flow thermostat 6 mths ago and had the rad & block flushed 12 mths ago. I replaced my heater hoses yesterday, topped up the coolant and took it for a long run and it seemed fine, I checked the overflow bottle before starting today and it was normal.

Please help
Darren

Darren,

The pulse is what is called cavitation, and tends to be caused by the water pump blades. So hows your water pump ???

The diff between 60deg and 90deg is the diff between thermostat closed and thermostat open. I could mean the pump or thermo

Yeh....the pump and thermostat are both less than 6 months old??? I am using a hi-flow thermostat too.

Yeah it sounds as if theres a few Blades missing from your pump.

Another place you can look is Head gasket sealing? Check to see if there is Bubbles in your Radiator inlet while running the Motor when warm or hot.

Check your oil for Milkiness from t

Cavitation is defined as a "localised gaseos condition"...it happens at the inlet of pumps where the pressure is low.

What you have is aeration from when you changed the heater hose...air finally working its way out of the system. Make sure your clamps

Thanks guys, I think youre right FastEH, as I know the condition of the rest of the parts are spot on. There is no sign of oil in radiator or water in oil.

Hi HZUTE, The recovery side of the cooling system works fine. FatsEHHolden was spot on the money, must have been some trapped air after changing the dam heater hoses.
Hasn't done it since.

Cheers

had that happen before...mixed 2 types of coolant and a sort of silica/sand fell out of suspension and blocked up the bottom tank and made it run hot.

Hmmmmm. not the result I was hoping for.
Took it to the radiator place....great guy, mad on V8's. Took the rad out and removed top & bottom tanks, not too blocked as first expected? few tubes blocked aprox 20%. Definate cross contamination on the coolant
