Hi all,
I am thinking about selling off some cars and concentrating on just a couple. I have a HQ GTS/4 that I'm pretty certain I will sell but the big dilemma is the HQ SS.
I have mentioned that I am thinking of seling on a couple of forums recently and as a result my inbox has been over flowing with people wanting the SS. Not one email about the GTS though!!
This has me a little concerned as to whether I really should be hanging on to this car for the future. If everyone wants one so bad then the demand is surely only going to increase.
It is a series 1 SS. Original colour is Infra Red. It is currently painted dark grey.
The car does not have the original engine fitted but any early red 253 will do the trick as it's impossible to know if it's original or not as long as it's around the same era. It would come with a replacement 253 anyway complete with original manifold, carby etc.
The body is quite sound but one front floor pan has pin holes in it. The drivers door would need replacing as the frame is bent but it comes with 4 spare doors (although drivers has some where the stainless strip would sit)
Everything is there to complete the restoration. The original M20 and Salisbury diff are in it. I also have 2 metres of original Houndstooth seat insert material (Over $250 worth)
Spare set of bucket seats, original door trims, reproduction tail lights, side lights, new grille, spare bumpers, spare nose cone, spare non GTS guards, spare boot lid. The list goes on.
What do all you Holden enthusiasts think this would be worth and do you think it is worth hanging on to.
I believe this is a collectible car. Am I right? Chuck some opinions at me.
Please remember that I am only considering my options and it is not surrently for sale.
regards Darren

Darren,
The SS are are rare beast by numbers, an GTS/4s may also be rare too in original config. Even at a guestimated of 5000-10000 built.
However, sell the SS or GTS/4 now for a song $3-$6000 and you may be sorry.
The HK-HT-HGs are rising now,

George, You are sorely mistaken if you think an SS is not worth much more than a Belmont. They are one of the Rarer Holdens and are becoming highly sought after.
While mine may be nothing special at the moment, it's got to be worth a hell of a lot mor

okay here`s the run down , HQ SS a total of 2,800 were made in 1972 only , type one 1,600 cars ,type two 1,200 cars , they may have been a belmont base but it was loaded with GTS goodies from the GTS coupe, they are rarer than the 4dr GTS (not including 3

It really doesnt matter how 'rare' it is if it's just a Belmont with stripes and gauges. It is only ever going to look like a Belmont (as does GTS/4), so the value is limited. Pink series I Hyundai's are quite 'rare' now too. They're still not worth anyth

Just to add another opinion...I know a few guys at my work who speak highly of the HQ SS as the car to buy over the GTS as there were limited numbers as cloudy states. Even if it's just an upspecked Belmont, any upspecked model holds a higher appeal and t

hmmmm yes well, the point being, if say an SS becomes too high priced, punters will stripe a Belly. They are just too easy to replicate. The GTHO is an anomaly and an aberration, so don't count on that to push the value of your glorified Belmonts up (and

Personally I have always thought, Regardless that there "Just" a Make over'd Belmont. That they where one of the Most prettiest styled cars Holden produced. I recall lusting over them from my Early Years and always wanted one. Even today, I'd have no tro |

George, you are showing your inorance of the HQ model.
You cannot simply add stripes to a Belmont and pass it off as an SS.
The SS is clearly identifiable from it's distinct trim code.
Series 1 has a 10C trim code and series 2 has a 10D trim code

I pose the question George. When was the last time you overtook or even saw a Belmont on the road , let alone an HQ SS , while you were driving along in your Excel ? Rare ? Hyundai without a rear wing , now that's rare . |
