i am in the porcess of getting my car panelbeated and was thinking of getting the body lifted off the chasis and getting the chassis powdercoated.
does anyone know how difficult this is? it is a full length chassis from a hj.
i was thinking that all break lines, fuel lines etc have to come off and was wondering if it is worth doing.
has anyone done this before or have any input that would be great.

We're obviously talking ute here aren't we??
It's not that difficult but it is a bit of work.
I don't know about powder coating, maybe a good fresh coat of chassis black would do the trick and be heaps cheaper (I imagine)

im talking panel van
i guess chassis black would be loads cheaper but i have been told a couple of hundred $ for powdercoating which could fit my budget for a build.
when you saya bit of work are you meanig lots??

also factor in the cost of sandblasting it, doing it by hand would be a prick

I just got my radiator support panel back from the powder coaters, cost $160.00 including sandblasting. The more detail the more cost...another thing is their ability to handle a full chassis as they use electrostatic painting and then baking??

The Van body is only held to the chassis with about 10 bolts.
The work is in disconnecting EVERYTHING that is connected to the body AND chassis. Steering, brake lines - front and rear, wiring, fuel tank, motor to body connections - Heater hoses and wir

The car is pretty much stripped down. No panels and engine. Just need to remove the steering I think as im pretty sure everything else is off the car.
I was thinking the removing of the brake lines etc from the chassis is the hardest par

it shouldnt take 6 months, 1 weekend to remove body, get it powder coated during the week and get the body back on the next weekend, provided everything is ready to go and all goes well

hey
ive got a panel van, hx, i stripped the body and everything off to disconnect it from the chassie,and was priced 500 bucks to get it sandblast and powder coat (if i remember right) to take the body off is ten bolts, thats easy, but u got fuel brake

another thing with powder coat is it doesnt scratch, it chips, and is not repairable, you have to do the whole job again. i'd spray it in Chassis black or satin black (sand blast 1st)

How would the chassis black/ or high gloss black look if it was top coated with a two pack clear. Chips and sratches wouldn't show through straight away would they?

ummmmm well i had a mate help and i took the body off in a day, then it took maybe half a day to get blasted and sprayed,
i think i was worth it, some people mighten because of the mucking around to do it, but at least a got a nice looking chassie. hah
|

I am pretty sure the subframe on a Panel van/ute is welded on,not bolted with rubbers like a sedan.Better check before you buy the paint!!!

The comments made about powdercoating cracking and chipping are very true.
when it chips or cracks it traps moisture, this in turn means rust. would not reccomend powdercoating a chassis on a daily driver, if purely a show car thyen by all means powderco
