Hi guys just want to know if the lsd mechanisim for a hq-wb 10 bolt is interchangeable with diffrent ratios?
EG will a 2.78 lsd be able to go into a 3.08 center?
If so how much would it cost to have the lsd rebuilt and fitted in to a recently rebuilt diff?
Thanks in advance Christopher

what do you wont to do if you wount to fit a 3.08 crown wheel and pinon on a 2.78 center the answer is no. but if you have a good 3.08 center/carrier and the lsd parts ie springs, thrust block, cone, side geers, from a 2.78 and the case is damaged then y

AFAIK 2.6 and 2.78 are the same, and 3.08, 3.36, 3.55 and 4.44 are the same.

The cheapest way to do a 9" for a HQ-WB is to get a VN Commodore diff. Get a diff shop to cut the ends off an XA-XC 9", and weld Holden ends on at the correct width (you can use the VN ends). Also have them weld on the HQ-WB sedan mounts (you'll need the

Im currently running disc at the rear so my booster should be ok.
I got a quote for $1600 to have a 9" made to run my rear discs with a 3.05 lsd center.
Is that a good price?

Probably OK, as it is a 3:1 LSD. Would be a bit dear if the centre is secondhand though. I've seen conversions with 2.75:1 open centres for under $1,000, so you are paying $600 extra for an LSD. I think XB-XC diffs are the right width for a HQ-WB, so anot

For ease of intechangable parts,I'd get a WB statesman disc brake diff, source the lsd 3.08 - 4.44 centre, select the ratio (3.08 is considered best all round manual/auto city/highway ratio) rebuild it with new bearings and drive the car. No need to re d

$750 for a reco centre (I persume no gears and bearings)sounds a bit steap, I got a unit from brisbane change over for $300 a couple of years back, I'd hunt around for a cheaper supplier and be real gentle with the bearings while changing the centres over

The think the price was a bit high because i dont have and lsd center to change over.
My diff was rebuilt not to long ago so i dont really want to hand it over as a changeover unit

Be cheaper to get a VR or VS LSD back axle complete, get the mounts changes over, redrill axles or fit Commy front discs, cost about $200 to get the mounts done at a diff shop, a complete back axle can be bought for under $500. And you can still buy parts

My center is 3.08 ratio so it would be of no use to you if yu are after a2.78 ratio

Sorry, my misunderstanding. I though you had a 2:78 offset LSD centre.I haven't heard of the commodore diff idea before but sounds feasable, Check drive shaft/uni joint compatablity or you will be up for cut and shut rebalance costs around $200-300 with n
