Hi all,

I have received conflicting information and would like clarification on the following if possible.

Will a T400 transmission fit in a HT Monaro without modification to the trans tunnel?

I had planned to fit a 350/T350 combination as I had been told that a T400 wouldn't fit without modifying the tunnel.

I have a T400 in the shed and if it fits I would rather use that instead of buying a T350.

Is there also any difference in the transmission tunnels from HK-HT-HG and auto's V's manuals?

Thank you in advance.

Darren

In a word NO a T400 will not fit in a stock unmodified HK-G Tranz tunnel.

You will also require a custom X member to suit and Speedo cable.

I have a T350 in my HT Monaro and that’s a tight fit.
I had to cut a few bits of excess alloy of the box to

Thank you for that detailed reply.
It is especially good to hear from someone who has actually done the conversion themselves.

You have confirmed what I believed to be correct but I since I had received a few opinions from 'others' who have contradi

Darren I also can confirm that the above is true. You should be able to use a HT/G trimatic shifter to operate the TH350 and a V8 Powerglide crossmember to mount it.

Thanks Byron.

That's good information regarding the shifter also.

I was thinking of using an aftermarket cable operated shifter with an original console but I have not looked in to this at all yet (may not even be possible), so I will file your info

I have one of these Lokar shifter. These are very big in the Hot rod world. I am not a big fan of the run of the mill B&M etc. Worth a look, cost around $250
My shifter goes through the consol no worries and looks like a manual stick. Spins people out w

How does the reverse detent work on those shifters? I imagine the while shaft must be spring loaded and you push it down to select reverse. Is that correct?

They look like a good quality shifter but I don't know if I'm a fan of the manual stick look.

See the link. You push on the bit with the gear markings on it and it sinks into the knob.
They also come with LED indicators on the side of the shifter boot.

I have a Dakota Digital gearshift indicator. These are programmable to any shifter both four

I get it now. I only looked at the shifter pics and not the knob pics.

There's certainly some tricky gadgets out there now.
