need some advice on my ht. It is a drum brake front end. I have recently put new brake pads, brake cyliders in it. My steering is now the problem. It has heaps of play in it. And when I brake, I have to fight it to keep it straight on the road. I will adjust the brakes..but the steering is my issue now If it is the steering box, where can I buy reco one from and how much........I am in melb, west subs.

Have you tried to reduce the freeplay from the steering box. Undo the locking nut on top of the box and gently wind in the screw with a flat tip screwdriver. Be careful not to go too far or it will bind. The idler arm and drag link is another area to

If you don't have some one handy you could jack one side of the front end and take the wheel and rock it from left to right. If there is excessive wear and play, It'll be noticed. And you'll likely hear a clicking sounds as the joints separate and close.

What does the Car drive like on the open road, Does it wonder all over the place?
And when your driving does the steering wheel take up a lot of slack Before the car responds to the correction?...... Leading to your S/ Box and Linkage ends?

You'll need to take off the Wish bone and have the Ball Pressed out!
Putting them back in is a similar process, But You may get away with putting the Ball into a Freezer over night prier to fitting them. But don't hold me to that. Sticking the Wish Bone

Back when Noah was a boy and I was an apprentice, we used to solve this brake pulling problem by swapping the rear shoe and lining from left to right. Also, chamfer the leading and trailing edges of the linings so that they don't "pick up" and give you d

I would not not go near the steering box until I had checked the front wheel bearings. Jack the front up and see if the wheels have any looseness in bearings by putting one hand on top of the wheel one on bottom and sort of lift out at the bottom there no

And if you still wish to use those new Joints. You'll need to source a Spring Compressor, To hold the spring from expanding while you take the lower King Pin/ Steering knuckle Nut off. This Nut is threaded to the Lower Joint you will be replacing.

Well you can put a jack underneath it to take the strain and gradually unwind it. But spring compressors are not that expensive. use one as well.

with drum brakes check your linings, on each shoe per side one shoe will have longer linings than the other, the shorter one of the two will need to be fitted to the front/leading shoe .if you have the longer one at the front on one side this may be the c
