Yeah Yeah Yeah, I know its been mentioned a million times but i'm in need of a powerful head for my 186, and can't find any yella terra heads in my price range, should i just opt to get some head work done to my original 186 head or is there a better option. If anyone has a worked head (bigger Valves, mild port)they'd like to sell, i'll swap for a 253.
Cheers
Alex

I'll sell you onr for $100 (pickup only), but I don't want the 253. I threw 6 or so of them away recently.

How worked are they?
How much power will they make compared to a yella terra?

Red 202/173LC/138LC head with inlet posts removed, ported, bigger valves, converted to screw in studs with guide plates and adjustible 202 rocker conversion.
Cannot tell you what power it would make, or compare it to any Yella Terra generation.

Studs are on the head. I'll double check how the studs are attached, but I think they are screw in. benn a while since I looked at it.
If the 186 is a neoprene seal you want a pre HJ crank ie HQ. If you get stuck, you can grind the rope seal journal down

that's precisely what i was thinking of doing (grinding) because i want the counterweighted crank and the X-U1 style rods from the blue 202, this way i can get a complete bottom end. They sell them for nothing from the wreckers don't they?
And also are t

If you use the 202 crank you have to use 202 pistons. 186 and 202 are the same bore size but gudgeon pin heights are different. 202 pistons are pretty cheap new. Keep an eye on Ebay (I've seen them for $100), and buy whatever size you need - try not to go

hmm... i didn't want to go that pricey.. maybe i should just stick with a +60 186 (192). I would go with a 202 but the car i plan to put it in (HK/T/G) is factory 186 and would need engineering for a 202 wouldn't it? and the 186 is what i have there at th

You won't need Engineering for a pre pollution 202 in a HK-HG. And again there is no need to use the 186 block if you get a 202 block for free - plus it'll save you the cost of machining journals down to fit the 186 block.

There is no reason why a 186

Even Better, this is how my combo is going to go so far:
186 bored 60 thou to 192.
Blue 202 conrods
3" Forged steel crank
Triple strombergs
Worked Head
33/73 Crow Cam
Extractors
5 speed Celica 'box
Zero deck height.

That's about it by now, sho

Completely off topic, but just making some calculations and it looks like it would be a lot cheaper to build a Holden 383 stroker from a 308 with a 400 crank, 350 rods and pistons. I'm assuming that the 350 and the 308 blocks are the same is this right, a

No, no and no.

G-Force engines in Newcastle used to build 350's out of 308's using a 350 Chev crank, rods and "383" pistons. But it's not easy. The 350 crank is 3/4" longer than a 308 so a 3/4" block extension is required (like a turbo-trimatic adapter

what do you think of the 186 combo, will it make power or will it be a slug. What does it need?

Sounds fine. But don't expect it to produce reliable power without spending $1500-$2000. To make a Holden 6 last you need to spend sensible $ on good quality pistons, balancing, rod preparation, quality bolts, correct matching of valve springs to the cam,

So forged pistons should be next on my list along with a full balance, arp rod bolts, and matching valve springs. Then what sort of power can i expect? and would the above list be suitable to pull an HK/T/G down the quarter pretty quickly? i'm expecting l

Hyperuetectic pistons would suffice.

will the blue 202 crank fit into a red 202? (engine no.QL667296)
and are these pistons for a 186 or a 202?

Yes it will, as long as the rear main seal is a rope type which QL667296 should be. Pistons are for a 202 or 186, just not sure which. The seller gives the pin height so just measure 202 or 186 ones and you'll know, OR look at a spec sheet for pistons eg
