Hi folks,
Just about to put the head back on the red 253.
What is the best method to seal it ? Is it the gasket only, or gasket plus a sealant on both sides ? It a sealant is to be used, what brand works ? I have a few types here.
And silastic from and rear seals too. I know those buggers leak.
Thanks in advance John

John, If I was to use a sealant on any motor part, then it would be "Hilomar" Let me warn you though - it isn't cheap. Mercedes use it on all their Diesels, and it's probably the best product out there for the type of application your after.

If you are ever in doubt about gaskets just ring the manufacturer. All quality gaskets will have the manufacturers name on t

Red's a good choice, goes faster...nah serious, it's a good multi use sealant. I did a mate's 308 inlet manifold that had heap's of pitting around the water ports and used Grey ThreeBond as this is what we used all the time on bikes. The Loctite red shoul

I have been doing up V8's for years, and have worked under some very smart bosses. The valley end seals for 308's, throw them in the bin! I use a 1/2 inch high bead of silicon along the horizontal block surface to seal the manifold up. Let it tack up f

won't silicon break down and possibly end up clogging up oil galleries? not saying you can't use it, but i've only ever used proper sealant...urban myth or not?
