Hi,

Has anyone ever done this or know the legalities of it? I have the WA yellow/black plates, the back one is perfect, but front is faded. Is there a similar reflective yellow paint than can be bought to re-spray them? I believe you can get them re-made, but its about $120 for a set?

Not interested in trading them in and getting the white/blue ones for $18 as the ones on it are the originals.

thanks,
Rhys

Hi Rhys, you can't get the yellow/black ones remade so you will need to look at paint which is probably illegal unless you can find the same stuff...

I am in WA and I have my black and white plates of my HR on hold untill I rerego it then they will supply me with new plates with the old number. If they will redo mine I do not see why they will not do yours. Try contacting your nearest rego centre.

The paint is baked enamel not just paint so looks different. The first fine you get will more than compensate for cost of getting them remade.
HQSS the new black and white plates are slightly different to the old ones I am getting new ones for my old car

Thanks for that imfo johnperth. So apart from the old rego on them they will look differant from the old ones anyway. That kind of defeats the purpose of keeping them.

HQSS I just had a thought, the black and white plates would not be original for your car anyway, I am pretty sure they were phased out about 1970 in favour of the grey and black lettered ones.
Th difference in the old and new black and white plates is ,I

I learned something new again on this site thanks. The older cars out there with new plates just do not look right to me, thats they only reason I put the rego number on hold.

thanks for the info johnperth. A cut and polish or buff may even bring them up better than they are now, providing the enamel isn't super thin.

cheers

Rhys,

It probably isn't legal, but you may be able to find a reflective yellow paint at RSEA or someone similar and repaint the yellow. As long as it is reflective and within a few shades of original, you'll probably get away with it...

Cheers...Dav
