700 klms ago at one of Brisbane's respected carburettor rebuilders the carby was dismantled and inspected including the needle and seat, no fault was discovered and since has been performing very well. But only today Sunday I was fortunate to get home as the motor will now not idle smoothly ~ idling drops to 400 RPM then idles very roughly then stops and had to be started 4 times on the very short distance between the fuel bowser and the road. At 1200 PRM or higher you would not know that anything was wrong. When I arrived home I was reversing into the garage and the motor stopped again and after several attempts would not start at all but left a very strong smell of unburnt fuel and had to be pushed into the garage. This is a series two 4.1 motor only done 109,600 klms. How can this be fixed ?

hey mate. probably just a bit of crap in your idle circuit. don't have any experience with the motors you're talking about but have pulled apart many carbies. have you got clean fuel in your tank? maybe just take off the float bowl first to see how clean
