Question: HR rack and Pinion Conversions

Just after some thoughts from people who have done or been involved in, a Torana "Rod Hadfield" rack & pinion conversion to a HR with Disc front. Difficulty, do's & dont's. I'm just at the initial research/maybe stage and to me it seems like the way to go.
As always, any information I get from members in this forum is much appreciated.

Never fitted one myself but have been told by all that have that they have bump steer. For that reason I went commodore rack behind the cross member. Al.

try contacing Andrew at www.streetneat.com i'm sure i remember him mentioning someone he knows who does a better conversion than the CRS kits. he's got some pics of a setup in one of his galleries.

Why do you want rack and pinion? Unless you are doing an engine conversion that makes it absolutely essential, you are far better off with the original steering. It is factory designed, it has worked well for forty years and it will go on fore

I have a torana R&P set up n HR front.
they do NOT suffer any bump steer problems.
they do allow easier fit up because they do not require any sump modifications to the motor.
they allow enough clearance for a Holden V8 to have the pipe drop betw

Thanks for the input everyone.
After weighing up my options it looks like I will be putting a reconed. box in. It is my everydayer and like BrianH says it's been doing the job for 40 years so far without problems.

You might want to contact Rods rack and pinion overhauler in Brisbane, Do a google search of rack and pinion or steering, or rods steering etc, this guy is located in QLD and has a good web site, I actually bought brackets and sourced info for fittment o

Good idea Steve. You have to remember the factory spends millions designing steering and suspension systems and people think they can replace the lot for a few hundred dollars and get the same results. It does not always work that way.
