Can some one please tell me what the purpose for this factory fitted varible resistor box thing is used for in my XZ 202 premier under ther dash above the steering cloumb

How can it be under the dash and above the steering coloumb at the same time? Can you explain its location a bit better please?

the only thing a variable pot would be used for are a: dash lights b: windscreen wiper motor. most likely windscreen wiper motor.

If it has a white wire going in to it and another white wire coming out of it and going through the firewall, it will be the intermittent wiper control box.

On the right of the steering the dwell controller, on the left it could be the rear speaker fader.

Thanks guys, Ive put the wiring loom back in and found that its attached to the accelerator pedal. Theres 3 wires that come out of it two pink wires and I think a brown. All is good!

Well that sounds like the electric kick down switch for the auto tranny.
