Hi guys i purchased a 308 turbo patern block last week with an engine number of QT 167962. Going by the QT it could be out of anything from HQ-HZ holden. Is their a way to narrow it down to a specific year? Any ast marks etc to look for? Also here is a link to the number stamped on the block.Does this look like it is factory stamped or is it possible that its been redone? http://home.aztec.aunz.com/gmh1975/DSCF1812.JPGNot the BLOODY Kingswood |

If a block has been decked the number would need to be restamped by the engine shop.
For casting marks denoting year look for a series of letters and numerals like this:
18D78
18 is day, D is Month and 78 is year. A = Jan, B = Feb etc. "I" is sk |
You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

Spot on. It's a HX block. It could never have been a HQ block though, as all HQ Holden V8's were 4-speed/trimatic blocks. That is DEFINITLY NOT a Holden stamped number, and it cannot be the right number for the block as is way too low for a HX. It is a H |

What Byron is saying is the number you have is not a stolen number, but under that number is one that is likely to be. If someone ever xrays the block you will be in trouble.
A lot of cars and engines are now turning up that were "reborthed" during the

Did he give you any indication that he knew it had been restamped?
Interesting story especially considering he gave your money back.
