Can some one please give me a straight answer on if i need an engineers certificate to put VK efi heads on my 186 Block. The mechanics that i have rang dont know s**t. And if so can some one tell me of a good engineer place in melbounre. Im ock of waiting on the phone with the RTA for 20minutes at a time to get a yes or no. can someone put me out of my missery. I cannot think of any valid eason why anyone could even remotely suggest that sticking a VK EFI head onto a 186 required an Engineer's report. It is a straight bolt on with the exception of a few water holes that require drilling in the top of the block. |

i know this fact but i eventually got onto vic roads and they said no i need an engineers report because the car is so old . i say pull the other one and it plays koombya. stuff it im just going to do it and if they sook well they can deal with it..

I think they want an engineer's report because it is an EJ that has been converted to a red motor, not becasue of the VK head and injection...

If you look at the rta website it says that if you change carburation on a motor you have to ensure that all poltion gear etc is conected as per original.
Being an ej id assume you have NO polution gear so id sugest if you put vk injection in you fit all |

thanks for all the info. as far as i know the car hasnt been registered or road worthy for over 10 years because no state has any record of the engine or chassie number. apparently any car before 89 had no records kept of chassie numbers. so when i road w Edited by user 19 years ago

an ej never had pollution laws so however you modify the original engine in regards to pollution control you will not need an engineers report. as dave said above, a red motor is not an original engine for an ej, so this is where you'd need the certificat

thanks for the info. the engine i have now is a 186 the engine number is 186A87907 there is no polution gear like you said and with my other Ej i bought it with a 202 and had to get a roadworthy and rego and they past that without asking for an engineers

The limo has VK injection on 186 block and engineer stated quite clearly that as it was a 1966 186 block it has only the pollution requirements of 1966 to worry about (none). That is fact, and it is on the VASS (engineers) report we had done when building |

cool thanks peter. yeh i bought the car with the hr front end and the 186 in it already but didnt get any engineers reports with it. so ill prob have to look into that.

186A is out of a HR. unless your in some remote outback location on the exemption list you'll need a rwc and an engineers certificate. you may have been lucky previously with a twit mechanic, but insurance will screw you if don't have one.

cool so how much will it usally cost for an engineers and what dose it involve. come to think of it i had a 202 in my other ej that came with it when i bought it and neither the rta or my insurance company asked any questions. i had to get that car roadwo Edited by user 19 years ago

rta calls for any thing with a 15 % increase in capacity to be sighted and certificated by an engineer , i would suggest that if you dont have proof of previous rego history with the motor that is fitted you will need to have the old jigger engineered...

I have mentioned this before. I have a friend who has an EJ and when he went to register it with the 186 it was flagged at Vicroads and he could not get the rego at any Vicroads branch as it was noted on their computer system. Until he come up with an eng |
