I am in Vic for RWC and rego purposes. We have all seen them. MINI TUBS. In magazines etc. I was reading through vic roads modifications section and to me it doesnt seem that it is legal to fit mini tubs, has anyone done so and passed RWC and if so what is required ie engineers report etc. As I am interested in fitting 10.5 or 11" wide wheel to the rear of my panno. It is HX model if this makes any difference for RWC purposes. Has anyonre had any experience with this?
Any info or help appreciated

As long as you don't touch the chassis rail, and the wheels and tyres are not requiring an engineers report, then you are fine. It mainly depends on the wheels that you have on the vehicle on the day when the RWC is done as to wheter the RWC will pass. St |

What peter said. As long as the chassis rail isn't cut or modified you're OK. Legally you can go 1 inch wider on the wheels without any problems for police or insurance. As long as the insurance company know about the mods, they shouldn't knock you

Hey Sandman308. Are you looking at 14 or 15 inch rims? i have put 14 by 10 inch rims under my van without any worry. the rim was 5 1/2 inch dish and a 4 1/2 back space. i ran a 265/50/14.its lowered 2 inches.my mate runs a 10 by 15 on his van. 6 inch dish

Aren't the inside of the original wheel wells in line with the chassis rails anyway?

Not quite. On an EH you have 20-25mm near the rail to gain, and more at the top of course. Then there is the ribs, which can be pressed to the inside to give a few more mm.

Hi Peter, you're right on an EH, but he is asking about an HX van...
On my Qute, which is basically the same tray/rear wheel tubs as an HX van, you'd be lucky to get 10 mm before you run into the chassis.

Qute is correct. there is no real point in mini tubbing an HQ - WB ute or van unless you really like the sheet metal look.
