G'day all,
I almost have all the pieces for my EFI conversion, and I managed to have a brief look under the bonnet of a VK the other day, but didnt have time to look at everything because the guy was in a hurry, and I need to know a few things:
1. How critical is the EGR valve? the reason I ask is that the extractors I have for it dont have the attachment for the small EGR pipe. and I need to know if it can be just blanked off as with my current one, or is it more critical on the EFI setup?
2. On the air inlet pipe there is a fitting just behind the airflow meter that has 2 hoses coming off it, one of which goes down to something which is where the dipstick is on my red motor, what is this, where does the other hose from it go to and do I need it?
3. Will a VK accelerator cable fit the HX pedal?
4. Which fitting has the hose that goes to the vacuum advance control module?
5. How long should I allow for the conversion?

Any answers to these questions or advice on any aspect of the conversion will be greatly appreciated.Cheers.Russ.

The EGR is not required on your car if you do not use the black engine block if you are retaining the red block the pollution control for that block will apply if it is the original motor type for your car.

Also the camshaft from the efi, and if you are keen you can strip the manifold down and grind out the exhaust recirculation thingy and give the air a bit clearer path. not that essential tho.

Thanks guys for the replies, I will take note of all those things,one other thing though, I have a blue motor cam in my shed, will that be better with the EFI than the red motor one? at the moment I dont think I can afford a new black motor cam, so which

Stick with the EFI cam - it is a lot more aggressive than the blue cam, and is partly responsible for the additional power, torque, and throttle response that the EFI motor is reknown for.

leave the red cam in till you can get a black one or a XU1 cam they are similar, in fact if you are buying a new cam the XU is better as the efi cam runs retarded for better low speed emmissions so I believe but someone may know better. Repco were putting

4. You will see that one of the connections on the manifold is a larger diameter - this is the connection for the one the hose goes onto... I think that's what you are asking..
