Hello everybody, Cool forum you have here, anyway, on the weekend my timing gear(that damn wretched fibre thing!) decided to crap itself, so I replaced it with a new alloy one, and found that the car has never run so good, its fantastic ! So what I need to know is, is it possible that it was put in last time one tooth out or something, or would it just be that it has been worn and loose for a while or something?the reason I ask is that no matter what I did before I could not stop it pinging, even on premium hi octane fuel, and it never really ran at its best even after a tune up, now it has more power and no sign of pinging, I didnt touch or change anything except for the timing gears. can anybody please explain this mystery. Thanks.
Bob.

Don't forget the distributor is driven off the cam as well as the valve operation. If you have 'righted' the cam to it's non retarded/advanced state, then you have also affected the ignition timing. In a HZ the factory cam is retarded 6 degrees I think. |
