Last night I was just around the corner from home after a 15 minute drive. I accelerated away from the lights, changed to second at about 40km/h, and when I put my foot back down on the throttle nothing happened.

I quickly put the clutch in to roll it to the crest of the hill so I could at least roll it home, and I kept trying the ignition as I went but it wouldn't go. When I got outside the front of my house I put it in first and let the clutch out. She fired and immediately idled perfectly. Seems to be no dramas at all now.

What the hell happened? Its a 308 M21

You don't say what vehicle, but if it's a Blue/Black 308 it may be a dodgy ignition module.

Or it could be a bad connection to the coil, or earthing of the points wire on a red 308.

my gen3 done that same thing just now and again turned out to be a engine sensor switch for throttle body have codes check hope this can help

If it's a HQ check the adjustment on the bar from the ignition barrel to the little plastic box under the column. I had a problem similar to yours & that's what it was - it just slipped back to 'off'.

It's a red 308 in a HZ.

There's definitely something wrong somewhere, twice over the weekend when I brought the revs up a bit higher than usual it coughed and spluttered really badly.

I recently put in a new HEI dizzy and the recommended coil. At fi

Did you mod the wiring harness or fit an extra wire to run 12 volts to the coil when you fitted the HEI.

If it's OK as far as a good supply of 12V to the coil, then lok at 3 things:
Coil
Ignition module (on the base of the dizzy)
Reluctor (star wheel & it's counterpart inside the dizzy).

I've had all 3 intermittently (and totally!) fail at some stage i

Not enough or no heatsink under the module can cause it to do strange things too.
