An Engineer's certificate is about all you need. See Mullen Automotive Engineering in Cardiff. He's explained to me what I need to do to put a 454 into my HZ tonner. It goes like this for a 350:
350 standard fitment to largest sedan equivalent in HQ. H |

Hi Guys.
Byron, that engineer in Cardiff is a gem. No Automotive Engineer in Sydney would pass an HX with a SBC & 'pretend" ADR27A controls. Most of the ones I came across wanted chapter & verse from the USA on the exact pollution specs on that particu |

Re: Holden 1 tonners, utes and panelvans. Do commercial vehicles have different requirements regarding ADRs than passenger cars and if so can a big block be fitted. There is heaps of room for a BBC in a HQ etc engine bay. If engineers have such a Edited by user Wednesday, 3 May 2006 9:07:49 PM(UTC)

Hi JBM.
Yes, commercial vehicles do have different anti-pollution regs.
The problem is that the ADRs treat Holden Utes, P/Vans & 1 Tonners as passenger derivatives, so they have to comply with passenger car ADRs. Vehicles like CF Bedfords, Rodeos & |

HJ commercioals have no ADR27, but HJ sedan/wagons do except in NSW where the HJ commercials need a carbon canister. What is needed for a SBC in a HX or HZ is all I have stated anyway, as the pollution controls were all external mods anyway. The easiest |

Hi Byron.
I've not been able to get to find out which ADR, if any, applies to carbon canisters.
AFAIK ADR27 was introduced in April '74 (EHQ & ALH) this includes all commercials. These cars had no canisters fitted. ADR27 involved lean a specified m |

Whenever I have tried to modify HJ commercials eg Chev I have always been told that I must fit a carbon canister as this was mandatory in NSW. Like you I could never find documented evidence to prove it, but as it was easy I did it anyway. I've never seen |

i have been told, not by an engineer BTW, you can no longer fit a big block to an HQ - WB because the stub axle load rating is is too low for the weight of the engine.

Seems stupid since the tonner was designed to carry a tonne. |

Even though its a 1 tonner does not mean that each axle front/rear has the same carrying capacity.
The front hubs are the same for all HQs however the one tonner has a stronger rear axle for load carrying.

Tonners do list a different part number for the front stubs than the rest of the HQ range. Never known why but they are different. It doesn't affect me anyway as my HZ tonner has no Holden front stubs and hubs as such. It's got a Dana 44 front axle out of |
