These days you hear a lot of people talking about turbo's for economy, especially on diesels & rice burners. Apart from the obvious difference (i.e. belt drive) can anyone tell me if it's possible to use a supercharger to increase fuel efficiency? Is it just a matter of set-up/tune or are there fundamental differences that preclude superchargers from being economical? Any advice appreciated, the old girl currently runs a 308 & 3spd manual (love the column shift).

They work well, but if it stays as a carbied setup it won't really get more efficient but then again neither does a turbo. BUT, it would be heaps cheaper AND more economical to remove the old 308. Buy a wrecked VN-VP 5L and stick it in. You don't need muc |

The motor's just been re-ringed etc & I've just bought a whole heap of goodies for it (new pumps, new extractors/exhaust etc), so I can't see the missus being happy with another engine swap. The EFI on top sounds interesting. Would that involve replacing

Yella Terra have a blower setup for 308. For VN style heads. The blower alone is over $3000 |

If you only change the heads and the efi setup over and keep your old block and engine number you don't need to go the full pollution control but I wold strongly suggest you fit cats as they clean the poisons out of the exhaust and don't affect performanc

Hi Guys.
I often hear people talk about the dreaded 'pollution gear' on late model cars.
In the case of a Holden 304 EFI V8, there is virtually none on the engine to worry about.
Fit a canister to the fuel tank vent, fit a cat (gets rid of the na |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

If you are worried about economy you need to measure up what its going to cost to do the mods. If its a few hundred $$ then fine. If it beyond $5000 you wont recoup the mod costs for something like 4 yrs or more. You need to work out what the car gets in

Like Trubluhq said it's kind of like LPG, the cost of install V's long term gain. The guy I got my V6 blower off said that when in cruise mode the blower was better on fuel, but when needed the extra Hp came on, no change to fuel consumption (was an auto)

My supercharged 20 uses about 17 litre per 100km (15 MPG) LPG on highway, so not very economical setup on my car, but does burnouts at the slightest blip of the loud pedal. |

Thanks for your suggestions. Took a while to get back as I was moving house. Decided the supercharger's out, basically for cost (re-sale doesn't matter, it's not ever getting sold). I'm going to start looking at LPG, which is a whole new can of worms.
