hi i have an xa v8 sw cosmic blue blue interior just begining dismantleing for resto some rust in upper firewall door pillars sills etc was looking for some advice on how to tackle this best re rust treatment patches or replacing whole sections anyone been there done that? thanks

it all depend on the time and effort. if a full resto replace the panels with good ones from a dooner car. but if a quick job just cut out the patches and weld in what you need. check out my mates.

thanks gonzo i see some serious works gone into that gt my car has much less rust but id like to do the pillars at the front and firewall and sills as well as your mate has done what type of welding seems best? any rust treatments used? thanks for taking

when talking about rust, many people have mny different ideas. my self i like to sand blast any of the replacement panels. i disagree with rust treatment and dont use any. just primer on clean steel. if you cant grind, sand, wire wheel, ect. the rust off

thanks gonz excerlent advise i will do just as you said just a couple of things did you have to replace any sections on the donor panels ie pillars sills? as i would think they all would have some rust also when re installing the sections do you just spot

some of the panels will have abit of rust in them, but all that is needed to be done is a small patch cut out and section welded back in. make sure that the patch is fully welded all the way around. if the panels on the car only have a small amount of rus

when welding the panels back on make sure all of the gaps on guards, sill, ect. are still the right size. if you decide to take the sill of try screwing the new section on first and then fitting the doors back on to make sure the gaps are good. to weld th
