i had just finished installing a 308 in my HG premier and went to get it blue slipped. the mechanic noticed a leak from the seals of the sump. so i told him to fix it and he did. 2 weeks after getting it on the road i noticed this morning that there was a huge puddle of oil so i checked were it came from and found it to be the sump seals were leaking again.

is this a common problem in holden 308s and wat should i do to fix it all together???????????

This is common with 308s because the gaskets are cork.

To fix apply "Gasket Goo", a gasket sealant, get the non hardening one, to both sides of the gasket, the bottom of the block and the sump. Follow the directions on the bottle.

Also make sure all

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

thankx heaps mate,

i actually just go onto the mechanic and he said to bring it back and he will replace the gasket and fix the leak. i will give him the sugestion of non hardening gasket goo and tell him to try spring or star washers to keep it tight.

Hi Guys.

You can buy a genuine 1-piece neoprene rubber sump gasket from GM-H (part no. 92062093). It supersedes for all 253/308/304 V8s back to HT. It is much better than the old 4-piece thing with the cork sections.

Make sure the sump flange is fla
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Ben

What Dr Terry said about the surface of the sump is most likely the cause of the problem and you can tighten the screws until they are on the verge of breaking and it still wont stop the leak.

To seal any sump you should not have to do anymore t

One other piece of advice related to this. Where the oil pickup is attached to the block, fit new hi-tensile screws in place of the originals. The originals are mild steel and stretch/break with age.
