also what is a reasonable price for this work?

If its at all possible to do on a 138, maybe ask for hardened valve seats and new valve guides so u can safely run unleaded. I assume a 138 head is the same as 179/202/253/308 design.

Cheers John

Hi Joel, The head should be crack tested, machined on the face ,valves grind and replaced if necessary.Hardened seats fitted so that you can run on unleaded fuel without the need to add additives to your fuel. You might consider putting double valve springs

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

AH ! So is the 138 head just a head ? As in spark plug holes and as u say recessions or cavities for the combustion chamber ? If so wowowow old design. Certainly crack test for sure. I would also assume it has water cavities as well. Sounds like a flat he

Before you get too carried away with this head, make sure it has not been surface ground so many times over the years that if you do it again the compression ratio will go through the roof. Mechanics doing valve grinds are just about a thing of

I was quoted $30 per seat to supply/fit hardened seats, would also recommend new unleaded valve guides most likely these need replacing at this stage in life, as said above it was common for mechanics to pull the head every 50000 miles or so and do the va
