On my HZ with ongoing water prob's, 3 core radiator 253 red, what cap do I use for the recovery system...I have a 13psi cap that somehow builds up preasure in the block and then releases it with style all over the chrome parts I just polish, I fitted a 15 psi cap that I had also and this didn't build up preasure but allowed coolant out but didn't draw it back???? Both are recovery type caps.

Do I have 2x stuffed caps or am I going insane chasing my tail. The 13psi cap is ok if you let the car warm up till the thermostat opens, if you don't then half way to work you see 20 psi on the eng water preasure gauge (Autometer) and then the pulsing starts as it releases the preasure in stages, thus blowing coolant from bumper to bumper out of the overflow bottle!!!!

Need help before the car comes to a tragic end as I've had about enough! @#!%*

Don't worry dear...it's only money!

Suggest you get the engine tested for a cracked head or blown head gasket. The test shops have a gauge that detects engine fumes in the water.
Also check the thermostat has a small hole about 1/8 inch in it, this allows the water to circulate even when t

invest $9 in a new 15psi cap if that's the one recommended. Will clear up that question anyway.

I went the whole hog and spent my life's savings on a new cap ($9-), I changed the pump 3 months ago, got the good one, had the same impellor as the one I took out, pressed steel.

The thing that drives me nuts is that it only does it the first time whe

I had an FC once that had a crack across one of the valve seats, It would drive fine for 2 or 3 days then suddenly lose water and boil. I guess while it was warming up the crack would be wider and once hot the gap would close. Or the other way around?

Yep, suspect you might be right....I need to upgrade the heads to hardened seats anyway, may as well replace those noisy lifters too.
What better way to spend the weekend.
Cheers

Buy a pair of second hand heads if you need to keep it on the road, do them up. you can get them pretty cheap.

CPC Autocomponents make all the radiator caps.Speak to Darryl Richards 03 94606566 and ask his advice. You will need to ensure that the sysytem is flushed out, and that the coolant recovery tube is clear of gunk with the bottle to the correct level.

Hi all,
Got a new 15psi CPC cap and fitted to car...with the eng cold, you take off on a normal easy run and you get up to 18-20psi in the block within minutes, as it starts to warm up and gets close to the thermostat opening 65-70deg you will see rapid
