Hello, could anyone shed some light on why the ute has all of a sudden picked up the idle speed? It is a 308/T400, Standard points, with quaddy carb. I only put the motor in about a month ago and it was running fine up until today. Before i bought it the fella said that it was recoed 5000km's ago but then let sit for about a year.
I have put new leads, balancer, water pump and run it on premium with lead substitute. The throttle cable has a heap of slack in it, but the linkage just doesn't seem to return far enough at all.
Really has me baffled so any help from people would be appreciated.

Thankyou Chris

OK HQ's should have linkages not cables. Do you have throttle spring on the Quaddie arm to the manifold, so the throttle will close ? Points drift may do it..maybe a vacuum leak. Maybe a hose, is stopping the cable to release properly ?

yep sorry I sold the faithful HQ when I purchased the HX. (the wife wouldn't let me keep both) Really kicking myself that I did too, the HQ with the fuel injected 6 would have neally kept up with the 308, and never really missed a beat.

Aha HX - emissioned. OK.

In the past 5 weeks it's got colder. The HX should have an auto-choke. The choke has a spring loaded throttle adjustment most people never see. PLus the black bakelite cover rotates too. If you look below the autochoke, you ca
