Looking at making the engine bay a little more pleasing to the eye and don't know if it would be better to chrome pieces such as the fuel rail or to polish it. Thinking of things like how long it would keep its shine, cleaning and resistance to marking. If I was to polish it is it common practice to put a layer of clear over it to help protect it?

Probably cheaper to polish then give it a coat of Glisten. It'll stay shiny & is very hard wearing.

I've polished up bike frames and swingarms to a really good effect. Just takes a bit of time.
If the surface isn't perfectly clean when you clearcoat, you can have some trouble with corrosion beneath it after a while. Much easier to repolish an uncoat

Personally I prefer polishing and anodising over chrome in the engine bay. I prefer not to have the chrome in the bay because it holds in the heat too well. Which really suck's coz I reckon it looks the part... But not to say that polishing and anodising

Polish alloy and Chrome Metal. Alloy will look like Chrome when Buffed. But it will loose its Shine over time. Choose what Parts your willing for this to happen too? Fuel lines could be a pain in the ass to remove to repolish them later on down the road! |
