how do you go about geting a new electronic dizzy for a hq 186 red motor,what car do you get it for and were can you get one because i cant seem to find one anywhere,they seem to be all for v8s.

Hi golden holden.
The dissy you need for any red motor 6, is the Bosch HEI unit out of a VC, VH or WB 6 cyl. The VK EFI 6 uses a similar unit again. You will also need the matching coil & also rewire the 12v supply to by-pass the ballast resistor.

how do you rewire 12v supply to by pass the ballast resistor ? and what is a ballast resister ? cheers

In a Holden, the ballast resistor is the wire that runs from your ignition switch to your coil. A few inches from the actual ignition switch, it changes colour but, ATM, I can't remember what colour it is. On a HQ Its a pink wire and it says resistance do not cut on it and it goes right in to the plug on the starter switch and it has a bigger pink wire going to the same connection and at the bulkhead end of the loom it joins to a yellow wire on the same ter Edited by user Sunday, 4 March 2007 12:47:52 AM(UTC)

i read this page the other day and thought it would be relevent on page one as someone was asking about ignition systems its from page 8 cheers
