Here's one for you....

I know there were a little over 14,000 HT Monaro's built. But the Bathurst 350 was a limited run. I am wondering if anyone knows the number built.

I seem to remember way back then they had to build 500 before they were allowed to race them. So I think the number would be somewhere around there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Tony.

Depends what you call the 'Bathurst 350', There wasn't a special run made for Bathurst that year. All Monaro GTS 350 manuals left the factory with the same basic spec. Autos has many differences in spec compared to the manuals.

Around 700 350 powered HT's ie 1837 models. I don't have breakups of manual vs auto, Early vs late engine etc. As Terry says there were two distinct specification vehicle: manual and auto.

They were not a limited run, they made as many as they could sell. They were also made over the length of th production run

Warren, it seems that this 'limited edition Bathurst Monaro' myth is gaining as much credibility as the old Canadian block & HP block myths. How the hell do they start in the first place, is this part of the Australian phsyce

I'd say that because there have been 'limited Bathurst specials' or to be more correct 'limited specials suitable for racing' built by Holden, Chrysler and Ford the HK-HG's get lumped in with those. Probably much more than the HQ's do because the HK & HT

Yes, it was really more of a rhetorical question. But surely everyone knows that some XU-1s, all L34s & all A9Xs were produced in limited batches & homologated for racing, but where did the rumour start that this also applied to HK/HT/HG 8183

I'd say it all started by assumption. People growing up with 'Bathurst' special Toranas in their face (like me being born in 1967) they have assumed that the same applied to the earlier performance examples. The fact that HK and HT 1837's often get called

without trying to sound too cynical, i'd say rogue owners/sellers also play a part in convincing starry-eyed gullibles into believing anything. it's human nature to want to believe something is 'precious' or 'rare'. even i must admit i didn't really know

I suspect you are right Byron.

Also, how many people think that A9X's had the L34 308 in them? They didn't, the L34 wasn't ADR27A compliant so they had to make do with the L31 and "moon-shot" gearing.

The main reason the A9X didn't need a performance engine was the L34 modded engine was already CAMS approved ie homologated, so the race teams were allowed to use them in the A9X body. The A9X was all about handling, brakes and a diff that wasn't used in

Hi Guys.

This was an agreement between CAMS & the Holden & Ford race teams. The LX was allowed to race using the pre-ADR27A L34 engine & likewise the Ford XCs were allowed to used the pre-ADR27A (4V Cleveland) XA/XB engine to keep parity.
