Hi Fellas,

I often window-shop on ebay for bits, and I'm currently looking at Yella Terra heads. Following are quotes from two sellers. Would someone please clarify for me. The first quote sounds genuine and authoritative. Have labels for other brands been applied to Yella Terra? Is a Stage 3 the same as 'High Performance'? (I always appreciate your help)

'I have noticed sellers quoting Yella Terra heads as a Stage 3 etc. Yella Terra advise that they have never classed their heads in this way. Their heads were classified as either Economy, Towing , Perforance and High Performance (Bathurst 6000)'

'Don’t be fooled by sellers advertising stage 5 heads, the highest performing Yella Terra head made was the stage 3. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL STAGE 3 RED HEAD, with additional porting.'

Hi David.

This stage 2 or 3 head thing comes up quite often & is almost meaningless, you also see camshafts sometimes called 'half-race' & full-race' the following also applies to cams.

Its origin lies in the 60s when head shops 1st sprung up & need

The specs for Yella Terra are still or were online some months back. Pity about this company giving up on older Holden owners though !! Shame YT.

They had at least 3 head types as you say. Supposedly ALUMINIUM not steel. And from memory on the LPG vers

Hi John and Dr Terry,

Thanks for that.

For my LC GTR I have a balanced 202 with mild cam and standard head. I'll run the original twin throat Stromberg. If I find I want a little more power, would I first have some port work done, or fit a Holley 35

Hi David,

For a bit more education on what works when modifying heads, have a look here: http://www.racetech.com.au/custom.htm . VERY interesting site.

God, don't put a 350 Holley on your car...they are a woeful carb for a red 6. The WW is good, the

THanks Dr Terry, John and Dave.

Dave, you surprised me when you said the 350 Holley would be woeful on a red 6. I thought they must be good because heaps of people fit them. I'm happy to stay with the WW.

I read the web site about porting. I'll jus

The weight difference would be not noticable. I got a new cast Yella Terra head a couple of years ago and it was all steel. At that time Aluminium ones were no longer available. So unless they have cast more, then I would say that is it. The new cast head

I can promise the ally heads are much lighter..I have one but its fitted so I cant weigh it.

Back to the original question.
I am pretty sure YT used to have a "Stage 3" head...but eventually it was renamed the "Street Performer" and it was painted yel

By noticeable I mean on a 1300kg car a reduction of 15-20kg would not be noticable in the steering or suspension.
