hey i just brought a hj with some work done to it but when it comes to diff's i dont know a great deal, just wondering if someone could help me out and tell me how to tell what kind of diff ive got? i wanna get a 9inch but like i said, i dont know how to tell them apart lol. would be appricated, thanks!

ok the 2 difs they came out with where salisbry and banjo ok to dind out which is which go to the rear of the car with your flash light get down and have a look id u can c a bunch of bolts going round the outside of the diff houseing u will most probally

thanks for the reply, yeah its got the bolts at the front, its got a crome housing aswell, thats why i wasnt too sure if its been changed to a 9inch. how can you tell the difference to a 9inch? thanks

bolts are around the housing when lookin from the rear of the car that is, so its not a banjo.

no its most likley a salisbry the crome cover plate is a byeable accessory like rocker covers ect ect
and if u want to find the ratio the easiest way is to jack it up drain the oil pull off the cover and move the gears aound and on the gear thet is pare

thanks, yeah i gathered... it makes sense now, salsibury 10bolt... haha thanks for ya help. now what do you reckon i should look into with the 9inch? i had a look into gettin a detriot locker but maybe just a bit out of my price. the guy i brought my van

Or jack up the back of the car until both wheels are off the ground. Chock the front wheels and put car in neutral with the handbrake off. Jackstands of course.

Assuming that its got the original crown/pinion the ratio should be stamped on the pinion collar too.

Theres nothing wrong wit ha salsbury Yiggles, are you chasing a 9in for a reason? or just casue your mates recon there the best? if its just to sound tuff save your $$$$ the salsibury will stand up to a lot of ****

i must admite the the i thought bout the whole 9 inch thing but really is u can get tunna axles 4 the salisbry u have sumthink that will take a hell of a beating and could possably take out some of the weaker 9 inches
