Hey guys,
I just bought an old 64 XM Falcon and I am in the process of rebuilding it but I am not too sure how to go about the body work. In the past I have just given the car to my panel man and let him do all the work but this time I want to be a bit more hands on so I have decided to strip it myself. It's original colour was the off white cream (not too sure of the code) but has since been covered with what seems to be a yellow primer and a ****ty sky blue. The stripper I have takes off the blue very easily in a matter of minutes but doesn't even start to bubble the yellow. I can scrape it off but it does take some effort and I dont want to put scores in the perfect panels.
Should I just strip the blue and let the painter start from there or should I go back to bare metal. If so please suggest a good stripper to use or another method. I heard sandblasting/beading works well but can damage the panels.
Thanks

well with my experenice, paint strip as much as you can. even if it takes two or three goes. then sand all other paint off (80 grit sanding disk are the best on an orbital sander). the only down side to paint stripping is that if there is any body filler

when you use paint stripper try to scratch the paint first with out damaging the panel itself...apply the stripper then cover the stripper with cling wrap ao garbage bags as the paint stripper does not strip the paint the fumes in it do...leave it for ab

Hi, I stripped my ZD back to bare metal using paint stripper from Auto 1. It was very effective stuff as long as I scoured the paint first. I used one of those wire brushes that you usually put in an electric drill and just scrubbed the panel with it in
