Hi there, i clicked on your profile and cliked the the send an e-mail button. not sure what e-mail addy it is as it didn't come up with an address it forwarded it to. anyway my question is as follows. i purchased an HQ coupe shell last year to restore. it had no tags when i bought it and the chasis had been changed to a WB one. During my scrounging around for bit's and pieces to ehlp with my build, i came across a gentlemen that had lots of parts and also thought he knew a little history on it. he also gave me a set of tags which he had come across around 10 years ago, which he was pretty sure from memory that were off the shell i had bought. i was wondering if there was anyway of working out if this was the case or not. the oly ID at all that i can find on the shell is a number stamped into the firewall. the tags read as follows;
Body ID Tag
Model:80837QR
BODY NO:46178-S
TRIM:1847-10Z
PAINT 568-13889

SKINNY TAG:
80837QH738668

ADR TAG:
HQ COUPE 8-72 CHQ 51022 M

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Cheers

(Terry, sorry to steal your thunder)

The BODY and VIN plates probably belong together (both Sydney), but the ADR plate is off a Melbourne built coupe (are you sure the CHQ number ends in M?). The dude you got the tags off might have mixed up the tags o

Hi Byron. Number definately ends in an M on the ADR plate. Will double check the number in the firewall tonight as the car is in storage. From memory it was 29175S. Based on your comments then they probably aren't off my car i guess.

Can you decipher t

I'll check with Ben Stewart whose records will give a better picture. But if the chassis number ends in M then the ADR plate does not belong to the other two tags or the body itself if stamping in the firewall also ends in S. On the seemingly useless numb

Hi Darrion36.

Soory, I missed this post earlier.

Byron has answered most of it, I just thought that I could decipher the pant & trim codes for you.

Exterior paint is (or was) Balmoral Green & the interior is Black with Black & Green Houndstooth c

Greg (classicOzWreck) has a GTS350 with the same colour combo. It's trim has faded to black and white, so I'd say that is what yours has done. Look somewhere on the seats out of the sun and you will probably find some of the white is still green.
As you

Ben Stewart got back to me on this animal. It looks like the BODY and VIN tags DO NOT actually belong to the shell, BUT the ADR tag may have/may have not originally matched the other tags. The number on the firewall is way too early to belong the the VIN
