Hi skydog.
Firstly the word is Compliance (not Compiance), but they don't use Compliance plates on HKs, their use began in Jan '70. The Compliance plate is the one with the date & chassis number, as well the various ADRs the vehicle was built to, the n |

Terry, you got the VIN plates back to front. 1 is a Sydney car. 2 from Brisbane.
I'd restore whichever was a V8. If both are sixes, I'd do the Inca gold example. You'll pick a V8 example by the speedo cable position on the firewall. |

Hi Guys
Thanks for the repsonses. Apologies for the spelling mistakes and terminology misuse. The gold car, although the body needs more work, does have a 307, powerglide and I think a factory LSD but not sure of the ratio. Did they have a factory LSD

Hi Byron.
Yes, I did get the VINs swapped.
Most 307 Powerglide Premiers had a 2.78 Banjo, the LSD was a factory option.

Check where the speedo cable exits the firewall. If it's towards the centre it's probably a factory V8, although it could easily have been done as part of a V8 conversion. From memory all V8 2.78 banjos in HK are LSD. And 2.78 is the only V8 banjo in HK Edited by user Sunday, 17 September 2006 7:28:29 AM(UTC)

Hi Byron.
The 'official' line when HKs were 1st introduced was that the only trans/rear axle combination available with the 5 litre (307) V8 was Powerglide & a 2.78 LSD, they were listed as mandatory. The Salisbury diff & the 3.08 Banjo were then made |

I wasn't 100% sure, that's why I stated from memory. The HK 2.78 and 3.08 banjo situation has always puzzled me slightly, particularly odd things like all HK 3.08 banjos have V8 yokes. I'm also often suspect of some sections of parts catalogues, particula |

Byron,
The 3.08 Banjo was for powerglide only on V8s, the Salisbury for manual. the 3.36 V8, manual or auto, were salisbury.

Hi Guys
How can I identify what diff is in the car? Are there markings anywhere to indicate ratio without me counting teeth?
Thanks

Hi skydog.
The ratio is usually stamped on the little round metal shield behind the diff yoke. Failing that, if it's an LSD, simply count the exact number of tailshaft revolutions to rotate the rear wheels 1 full turn.

hi I have acquired a HK premier and the original owner said it was a v8, however the registration indicates the engine number was a 186P? that is a 6cyl, how can i truely find out if it is a factory v8? the diff is said to be v8...

Where does the speedo cable exit the firewall? A V8 has a hole for the speedo cable between the centre of the firewall and the wiper motor, just down a bit. A 6cyl is over under the booster. |

That's all Holden did, but all HK firewalls have a pilot 'notch' in the spot where the hole is drilled, and all also have the 6cyl hole punched out which has a bund stuck in it if a 307 was fitted. Send me an email and I'll send you a V8 firewall photo fo |

Hi Byron
I have checked the firewall and the speedo cable comes out near the centre.
The diff is definitely an LSD but haven't checked the ratio. Trans is a powerglide and front brakes are disk.
I can only assume that these would indicate a good

It is a pretty good possibility, although it could also be possible that all of that has been put on the car too. I assume it's a V8 yoke on the diff? Does it have the yellow LSD stickers under the bootlid and on the driver's door pillar? Is the Powerglid Edited by user Wednesday, 11 October 2006 7:40:56 AM(UTC)

Hi Byron
Yes it has the LSD stickers.
I don't know what you are referring to when you talk about the powerglide crossover. What do I look for?
