just pulled the gearbox of my 186 and am trying to identify which type of box it is. Has holden stamped on the side with a number 5 also has the following serial number on it 9938391
also has a 10 stamped on one side

The casting number (not serial number) suggests it is a post 74 gearbox, so probably an ADR27a on manual, if three speed, two levers on the right side or 4 speed with two levers on the right and one on the alloy extnsion housing. If 4 speed it could be M2

9938391 is the part number for the side cover for an aussie 3 or 4 speed with the 4th gear vacuum advance switch on the front selector shaft hole meaning Warren's diagnosis is spot on so just check if it's a 3 or 4 speed.

I buy all cheap aussie 4 speeds I can to get good clusters and main shafts, but about 1 in 5 have good parts so I normally only pay $50 for 6cyl boxes and hope. If those parts are junk I sometimes get a good 1st or second or possibly a selector. If it is |
