hi all,

i have a hj wagon with a completly stock 202 in it. when i am going around a corner and give it a boot full the engine just looses all power and just about stalls. i am not sure if it is the carby or whether it could be some other issue. it has the same problem while trying to do burnouts. i dump the clutch and stand on the brake and the tyres spin for about a second then the engine has a hissy fit but does not actually stall. it sort of feels like the engine is flooding or something like that. i am going to fit a set of extractors and a 2 1/4 exhaust to it.

any help would be muchly apriciated
thanks

IMHO a stock 202 will struggle to do a burnout (if at all). Not only that, assuming that you have a bango diff it won't last long with dumping of the clutch. They will shear an axle just by looking at them funny. Sounds like you are encountering a dirty

I agree with Shnad, it sounds like the pump squirter in the carby is not working correctly. If you take the air cleaner off the carby. When it is not running (if you do it when it is running it could backfire and give you a new hair cut)and look down the t

hi all,

yeah i had a look at that yesterday and it seems to squirt fuel into the carb. could it be something to do with the ignition system maybe? i have checked the distributor cap, rotor button and they are fine. i am not sure what else to look for.

Ross,

It may even b your Float level too high or low.
If its happenin on corners and your fuel in the bowl is leaning towards the Venturi or away from the Venturi, this will help indicate if it "MAY" b too H/L (Flooding or Starving).

Check that the +ve lead from the battery to the starter isn't rubbing in the LH upper wishbone. This can also cause loss of volts to give any meaningful spark, plus eventually start a fire.

As for giving a stock 202 in a HJ wagon a bootful, or dumping

Does it backfire when it does it. Backfire normally means too lean. Stumble normally means too rich, Either from to much fuel or not enough spark. If it is a points dissy, are the points set right and is the vac adv working ok . Trying to to a brake burno

hi all,

i dont see why a 6 cyl would not do a burnout. i have had a 2l 4 cyl van that could and a 4 cyl hilux with a locked diff that had no probs. all those cars where probably the same weight if not heavier than the hj so i dont see the problem.

I suppose it also depends on what sort of driveline you have, ie g/box and diff ratios. The van and hilux would be geared a lot lower than your hj. My WB used to light up in the wet no sweat with an LSD 3.55:1 diff and M20, but i never tried in the dry f

Later ones have a bigger hole in the bottom to fit larger shocks through. I'm not sure when this mod was made but I remember buying new lowers for a HQ and got later ones.

My HJ tonner ('76) wouldn't allow monroe gt shocks in, had to get out the file. Never had that trouble with my wb ('84) though..
