Howdy, Thinking of building a motor specifically for gas, or duel fuel, to have as a daily driver in the HG. I'm planning on basing it on a blue or black six - apart from the head & electronic dizzy, are these motors identical to a red motor...?
I've heard about the dizzy re-graph thing, but what compression should it run - is a set of flat-top pistons enough or does it have to be more drastic, to get the most out of going to all the expense? Also, the hardened valve seats- are they the same as you're supposed to have for ulp or harder still? Does anyone know if an efi set-up (VK for example) motor would work better than a gas-research set-up or similar?

Straight gas and dual fuel are two different things. What do you want? |

If u run straight gas u can go 12 to 1, but u cant on dual.
If u use a Blue/Black u will need to use all the anti-poll gear.
Maybe use the Head Crank and Con-rods from the Blue/Black in the Red.

I was thinking of building it to be suitable for both, mainly because of the delay it will take in getting a gas conversion these days. Does anyone know what compression a set of flat-top pistons will give?

If you are setting it for both, then I would recommend building a petrol motor, and having the gas as a price saver.
I believe if you want any real performance from gas, then you need to build a gas only motor. I built a 280hp 202 on straight gas, so |

I think your right - I'll prbably build it for petrol 'cause I have a better undertsanding of that. Just curious was your 202 still 'economical' on gas with all that horsepower or did it chew heaps too?

I guess you can't change the laws of physics - Speed & horsepower = money build & money to run.

Actually just did some maths. If gas is half the price of fuel that's equal to about 8.5l per 100ks, which ain't so bad! Can I ask some specs of the motor? Was it cranky on the street or ok?
