well y,all after brilliat 308 conversion, into transit, decided to check thermostat,,as sle gauge was not showing temp,,,it was a little bit dirty, but still moves in and out,
my question is>>>> should i drill small hole in thermostat while i have it out?? and why do some do this??

I've always done this, just a small 5mm hole, reason for doing this is, in case the thermostat becomes stuck in the closed position - you will still allow coolant to flow through the block and heads. As the hole is only small, it won't make hardly any dif

The other reason for a hole in a thermostat is to let air bleed out of the system when you fill it up with coolant. To try to help get rid of air locks in the system. To test the thermostat boil the kettle, put the thermostat in to a container and pour th Edited by user 18 years ago
