Is there any difference between between the flywheels off a 253 and 308? I want to use the flywheel from my 253 for my 308 and I've noticed that 2 of the 6 holes don't line up. If this is the only difference I'm planning on just elongating the holes. It's a turbo pattern 308 if that makes a difference.
Thanks

Are we talking flywheels or flexplates?
What transmission are you running?
I'm not sure if there is a difference in flywheels but there is a difference between the trimatic and T400 transmission flex plates.

Agreed with munro, i don't recall their being a differance between 253 or 308, however the flex plates are. Ring gear is also different between them as well i think

You must have a Chev one, as 253 and 308 flywheels and flex plates should interchange as far as bolt holes are concerned. |

Keep rotating, they only go on in one position.

I'm hoping Glenn is on the right track. I had to bolt in just the 4 bolts that were lining up because I need to be able to drive the car away from where it is pretty urgently.
I'm pretty sure it needs a new clutch because there's no grooves on it anym

You may have a bigger problem as the block is a turbo pattern - unless you have an aftermarket bellhousing the aussie 4-speed isn't going to bolt up. Hopefully you've already covered that aspect, but just thought i'd warn you in case you hadn't. |

Yeh mate, I knew about that one so I had that one covered. In fact as far as I'm aware the bellhousing is the only thing that needed changing. Dizzy, alternator, fan, flywheel etc all came off the 253 and bolted straight on. Only thing left is the starter

Glenn is spot on, just spin it around until all the holes line up. I've been through the same exercise but had a Toploader behind my 308 turbo block. By the way be careful using concrete blocks, they can crumble with a bit of weight on them.

Cheers, Pete. Old Holdens never die, they just go faster. |
