On my mild 308 this 600 Vac. Sec. is driving me nuts! I've just checked the vacuum at idle (12 Hg in gear) so the 65 power valve in it should have been OK but I fitted the 45 to see what would happen, advanced the timing from 8 deg. to 14 ( Procomp elect. dizzy which has 32 deg total and is Adv. ok) 65 mains, mixture screws @ 1 turn( the motor actually idles smoother and higher on 1/2 turns)Now with these settings the plugs (new) went black/sooty in a couple of K's and I also went from a purple(light) secondary spring to a black(heaviest) to make sure the secondaries weren't coming in early. This donk is running a Crane cam #286 230 @.50 and a 3000 stall. The thing actually runs/revs well but I can't get a bloody clean plug- the Holley is stamped 80457-2??????? I'm going to stick to BIKES!

The trick is to close th

If you go to http://www.holley.com/da...0Numerical%20Listing.pdf on the bottom of page 15 it tells you the factory specs for this carby. If you are running std unleaded on your car. You will not get the plugs to read like you c

I'd be trying a hotter plug to start with, and dropping the timing back a few degrees from 14 advanced. That seems a little excessive on unleaded.

Jabba is pretty right about opening up the secondarys. If you put the carb off and have a look at the idle trasfer slot from underneath there should be about .040"showing under the butterfly. If you have them open more than that then do as Jabba says and
