Hello all, A couple of months ago someone had advertised a V6 engine into a Torana.
They stated that it was a VN V6 engine with an Ecotec top end. I asked them how they achieved this & they said that they didn't do it.
Going past the obvious things like making spacers for the inlet manifold to fit onto the wider valley can it be done? I would assume that you would need to use the Ecotec camshaft will it fit the earlier block?
Then of course you would need to use longer pushrods than the Ecotec has so would you use the earlier push rods?
Im fairly sure that the better balanced Ecotec crank won't fit a VN series 1 block but would it fit the VP-VR block?
I am asking these questions because on the weekend I picked up a fairly complete Ecotec engine which has alledgedly spun a bearing & I think that the better breathing Ecotec top end combined with the longer connecting rods of the earlier block would make an interesting combination.
Cheers, Jim...

From what I have been told only a few bolts interchange between the Ecotec and the earlier engine. (the Buick engine}

Thanks for that HQ SS. Technically you are probably right as in straight swapfor instance the alloy sump is not a straight swap onto the earlier block because one bolt hole is in a different place.
I think though that a bit of stuff will interchange |
