I've just replaced the intake manifold on my 308 after the old one corroded and leaked. I'm getting white smoke out of the breather on my rocker cover, and also had a bit of water out the exhaust. Could this be residual from when the old manifold leaked or do I have bigger problems? Tho motor has done less than ten thousand kilometres since it was rebuilt.

Water out the exhaust is not unusual (when fuel burns it releases water as a by-product), but could indicate the manifold is leaking water into the inlet manifold. Don't know about the smoke though (unless there is a vacuum port not operating now that wa |

Scott is your 308 an emission or pre emission motor and was it a new or a rewelded valley you fitted.

Does your car have an Auto trans? ATF getting sucked in to the inlet can cause white smoke. Check for ATF in the top of your vacuum hose to the trans. If there is ATF contamination that far up, your vacuum solenoid on the box is likely to be the culprit.

Thanks for the input. Firstly hq ss I'm not sure if it's emission or pre emission, I think it's pre emission but I didn't build the motor.
It's a manual gearbox.
It seems to have cleared up a bit but it was hard to tell, was pretty windy. I'll take

Ok, drove it around, it runs fine, but it seems to be using water. I filled the radiator to the brim and after around 15km the water level has dropped by a couple of centimetres.

Just to add, it's still blowing smoke out the oil cap/breather. However if I remove the radiator cap it seems to blow less smoke. Am I imagining this or could it be caused by less pressure in the cooling system when the radiator cap is off, suggesting tha

Unless you have an overflow bottle and suitable cap, your radiator will not be completely full unless the car is at normal running temperature. When you fill the radiator completely and then run the car up to temp, the water expands and some leaks out. Edited by user Saturday, 18 November 2006 12:48:43 PM(UTC)

The water is clean and there's no bubbles, although there does seem to be some very slight milky streaks in the oil, but it's very hard to tell.
I'll take it in to the mechanics to get it all checked out I think.
