is it true the vk starter is shorter than early red six starters and more powerful i have to loosen the manifold and extactors to get room to change the starter on my hq 202 what about other early commodores are they the same as the vk id like to make the job a little easier cheers and thanks

Nope, the VK starters are still too big to get out without dropping the exhaust off the manifold.
There is a bosch reduction gear starter though, that you can replace your current one with, and it is much smaller - and more importantly, it clears the e |

I was pretty sure the VH/VK starters were smaller. But I also think the VK injected ones are smaller, that was what was on the EFI I wrecked for my conversion. They need to be smaller to do the extractors which are standard on the injected motor.

I believe that the starter motor you are looking for does exist. They are found on four cylinder Commodores if you can still find a Commodore 4 that is.
I ran one on my old Commodore with 179 engine but it didn't last long trying to crank the 6. |
