Hi all.

Not really being a Torana guy, could someone fill me in on some details? I was looking at a 4 door LX which has all the options... ie GTS bits, plus SLR dash, bonnet scoop, flares, spoilers etc, but it has an XU1 202, with the triple carbies... Im wondering how original this would be, and also, what is the difference between SL and SLR and SLR 5000... Is the 5000 just the V8 version? Any enlightenment would be great. Cheers.

SL is just an S with a clock, basically. SLR got the dash, but was a 6cyl still with a 253 optional. SLR5000 was 5L only with additional bobtail, front spoiler and a few other bits. Only the SLR5000 A9X got the flares and bonnet scoop. Basically the same

Thank Byron.

So it could be an SLR with a 202? Perhaps the flares, front n rear spoilers and scoop are all later additions.. I suppose the only way to ID it for sure is the compliance / vin numbers? It also has a 4 speed manual, 3.55 banjo diff, HQ dis

Bathurst booster? do you mean a big one like an XU1? In LX, only the A9X was really raced and these had a little booster, like a WB Statesman with the plastic master cylinder. The road going SLR5000's also had a smaller booster than the XU-1 style.

Hi Guys.

All LH & L X V8 Toranas got the large double diaphragm booster, similar in looks to the one used on HK/HT/HG discs & XU-1s. The A9X was slightly different to allow for the plastic reservoir type m/cyl. The 6 cyl cars had a slimmer, single diap

Byron and Dr Terry I love you guys. Your holden knowledge is second to none and I appreciate the info. I learnt more about Toranas from the last few posts than I have in the last 10 years.

I havent seen under the bonnet to check if its a bigger booster

Hi hainzy.

The best way to ID boosters is to look for the stamped part number, it starts with VH & has 3 digits after that. If you can find that number I can ID the booster for you.

Terry is right about the S and SL differences. I was being facecious. In terms of value, if the body is excellent there is very little difference in value between an S and an SL - the value is in the body condition. The SLR has value in it's identity as w

Hi Byron and Dr Terry. Found out it was originally a 253 and the factory colour was Tuxedo Black. So perhaps a 253 SLR with after market scoop/flares/spoilers....? Did all SLRs have the shadow writing on the lower sills and rear spoiler? Or was that only

Only the LX SLR5000 had the ugly black writing along the bottom. A 253 SLR looks pretty much like a stock SL. Just has SLR trim, dash, a few blackouts if memory serves me correctly. If it's a later example it should have a silver dash and early RTS. Stil

LH V8 boosters are thicker than the LX ones. As pointed out, LX V8 ones are about the same thickness as a WB booster.
