what are the differences between these two motors? are the blocks the same just different stroke and bore? will a 351 sump fit on a 302? thanks

Blocks are the same, sump is the same, bore is the same. different crank and rods and heads. They also had slightly different starter motors from the factory.

yep. personaly i prefer the 351 windsor over the cleveland.
windsor's rev harder but i rekon the best bet is 2 put different heads on em.
although do get a 351 windsor is alot harder then 2 get a 351 cleveland

302 cleveland and 351 clevenland are the same block but a 302 windsor and 351 windsor are totaly different.

Don't try and make too much power out of the stock windsor block. They split underneath the manifold. It's great if you want two 4cyl engines in the V8 engine bay. The clevo block is stronger in that dept. XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected]Edited by user Friday, 15 December 2006 1:12:13 AM(UTC)

sorry fellas. i think i got two different answers. basically all i want to know is will a 351W sump fit on a 302? i have a 351 that was going to go in an xp but i think theres a bit too much work to get it to fit. i know a 302 will basically bolt straight

I'm pretty sure the sump is the same 302W->351W and visa versa. Most stroke their 302's to 331 or 347 cubes. You can make decent power with a 302. It's just easier with more cubes. XB Fairmont sedan : [email protected] |

In short no the 351W sump won't bolt up to a 302W. The arch at the rear where it meets the main bearing cap is much bigger on the 351 sump.
If your handy with a grinder & a welder you can chop this bit off a 302 sump & fit it to the 351 sump t

yes thats right a 351 windsor sump is different to a 289/302 windsor sump.actually the 221 windsor is also the same as the 289/302 block.

yep just physically tried exactly this today. the 351 sump will bolt on but holes for mains at each end are about 1/2" larger diameter on the 351. Also I think the oil pump is different setup, but not sure about that.
